News, Notices, & Updates Knox County 6th and 9th Grade OrientationsKnox County Schools host 6th, 9th grade orientations The Knox County Schools will be hosting student orientations for rising sixth and ninth graders on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 to help transition those students into middle and high school. Orientations will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon at all middle and high schools where the students are based. Bus service will be provided. Transitioning grade students will have the opportunity to become familiar with, and acclimated to, their new school environment while being in a small group setting prior to the return of the entire student body. “We understand that entering a new school environment can be challenging for students, especially at the transitional grades,” said Ed Hedgepeth, Executive Director of Secondary Education. “Our goal is to help ease any apprehension that transitional grade students may have by providing as much information as possible before the official start of school.” Students officially return to the Knox County Schools on Monday, Aug. 15, which is a half-day session.
